‘Qué Pasa’ in Immigration: Civil Disobedience, Sports Protests, Hunger Strikes & Meeting Demands

As activists calling for for comprehensive immigration reform and against Arizona’s new law SB 1070 grow increasingly frustrated with federal inaction, protests continue to erupt across the country everywhere from Department of Homeland Security headquarters to sports stadiums.

Civil disobedience. The Spanish-language press covers an act of civil disobedience in New York yesterday in which 16 people, including two city council members, were detained while protesting for comprehensive immigration reform and against Arizona SB 1070. EFE, El Diario La Estrella (Dallas), and El Diario-La Prensa (New York) have more. Another civil-disobedience action, staged in Senator John McCain’s (R-AZ) office in Tucson to call for passage of the DREAM Act, resulted in the arrest of four undocumented students, according to El Financiero and La Opinión (Los Angeles).
