With last week’s passage of S. 744, the Senate bipartisan immigration reform bill, Spanish language media has been focusing on the next step for immigration reform, passing legislation through the House of Representatives. Scenarios are being discussed as the fight for reform with House Republicans begins.

Senate bill S. 744, a bipartisan immigration reform bill with a path to citizenship, was passed with a 68-32 vote. Immigrants around the country are celebrating this historic passage, and are preparing for the next battle ahead–the House of Representatives. Undocumented immigrants are also being reminded that the bill is not a law yet, and everyone should be careful with lawyers who scam innocent people for money.

Pro-immigration reform activists are preparing themselves to lobby Congress in hopes of achieving immigration reform in the House of Representatives. The House has not yet been able to submit a proposal that includes a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants. There are millions who are hoping for immigration reform and activists are beginning their campaigns pressuring the House to do as the Senate did and make immigration reform possible.

AP: Inmigrante en matrimonio gay podrá vivir en EEUU

 

A gay immigrant from Florida has received his green card thanks to last week’s Supreme Court ruling striking down the Defense of Marriage Act. Julian Marsh and Traian Popov, and hundreds of other same-sex immigrant couples, now have an opportunity to stay together in the U.S. as legal residents.

With the passage of the bipartisan immigration reform bill in the Senate, many are questioning whether or not reform stands a chance in the House of Representatives. One scenario says that during the conference committee, Congressmen and Senators will find a way to compromise the S.744 bill with a House plan that makes reform happen with a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants.
