HB 56 Alabama Immigration human rights for allThe wide base of support that we saw yesterday outside the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama is a clear sign that we who oppose HB 56 are the mainstream, while State Sen. Scott Beason and those who support the law are the extreme.

Another sign would be this new poll, conducted by the Capitol Survey Research Center and reported on by the Birmingham News, which found that 57% of likely Alabamian voters support either revising or repealing the Alabama immigration law.

As the Birmingham News writes:

Gerald Johnson, director of the Capital Survey Research Center, said polling data indicates a strong majority favor doing something to address illegal immigration.

“Clearly the message has gotten through that what was done in Alabama was not the solution,” Johnson said.
