On the eve of CPAC, more groups are coming out in support of immigration reform every day, including the National Federation of Republican Women and the San Diegans United for Commonsense Immigration Reform. At CPAC itself, Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) is scheduled to talk about how Republicans can win over Latino voters, while immigration reform supporters like Whit Ayres and Jennifer Korn will speak on a panel about what a “lasting immigration reform” looks like. Even CPAC’s chair, Al Cardenas, said last week that the nation needs immigration reform and that he could support a path to citizenship. All of this helps to show that it’s a new day on the politics of immigration, with sensible, pragmatic problem-solvers coming onboard–and those insisting that we duck the issue being left behind.
