Hundreds of Advocates Hold Pre-Dawn Vigil for Immigration Reform Outside of Speaker Boehner's Home

For the last few weeks, immigration reform advocates have renewed their efforts to push Congress to pass legislation, through a series of civil disobediences, protests, rallies, vigils, and hunger strikes.  Though Congress could also pass immigration reform next year, there is also enough time left this year for the House GOP to take action–if they really wanted to.  Speaker John Boehner, however, is standing between immigration reform and a vote, which hundreds of advocates this morning sought to call out when they showed up before sunrise to hold a vigil outside of his Washington, DC home.

The advocates–with United We DREAM and other groups–lit candles, told their stories, and set up a mock Thanksgiving dinner table to symbolize deported immigrants who will not be with their family members this holiday.  Afterward, they marched to Speaker Boehner’s office on the Hill to continue asking him to move forward on immigration reform.
