House Judiciary Committee Gains Strong Supporter of Immigration Reform: Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO)

Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO), a longtime supporter of immigration reform, was appointed to the House Judiciary Committee yesterday, and tweeted about it:

<blockquote><p>Very excited; appointed to Judiciary Committee today! Much work 2 fix our broken immigration system and ensure equal rights 4 all</p>&mdash; Jared Polis (@jaredpolis) <a href=”https://twitter.com/jaredpolis/status/144572394646937601″ data-datetime=”2011-12-08T00:21:59+00:00″>December8, 2011</a></blockquote>

No doubt that he’ll spar with the Three Amigos – Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-CA), and Rep. Steve King (R-IA) –  three of the GOP’s most vocal, anti-immigrant congressmen who also happen to be on the Judiciary Committee’s  Subcommittee on Immigration.

But I have a feeling Rep. Polis, who gave this eloquent speech on the DREAM Act, will be able to hold his own.

The Representative will join 15 other Democrats and 23 Republicans who make up the committee.
